This event was organized by the Here For Hope Foundation in collaboration with German Cooperation, with coordination and technical support from Kayonza District.
This critical event attracted notable dignitaries, including the Mayor of Kayonza, a representative from MINALOC, the District Police Commander, a Rwandan Army representative, and the Head of German Cooperation. Around 600 youth participants from Kayonza, Kigali, and Rwamagana, as well as 200 local community members, attended to enhance the lively atmosphere. The day highlighted collaborative efforts focused on promoting environmental stewardship.
Activities and Highlights
1. Tree Planting Initiative.
The day began with an ambitious plan to plant 20,000 trees in the Nyamirama Sector. This significant effort represented a shared commitment to environmental renewal and sustainability. Even when unexpected rain posed logistical challenges, participants remained determined. Their enthusiasm and dedication were evident as they worked together, demonstrating a firm resolve to protect the environment.
Field Meeting.
After the tree planting event, Mayor Nyemanzi John held a field meeting highlighting the vital role of youth in environmental efforts. Distinguished speakers from MINALOC, the Deputy Head of German Cooperation and the Founder of Here For Hope Foundation, engaged the audience in significant discussions about the importance of youth participating in climate action. This dialogue enlightened participants on how a dedicated younger generation can lead sustainable community practices.
After hard work, participants moved to the Silent Hotel for an evening celebrating culture and entertainment. Notable local artists, such as the famous Fire Man and comedian Danizzoo, performed, captivating the audience with their blend of humor and music while sharing strong messages about sustainability and responsible behavior. This engaging segment entertained attendees and emphasized the significance of youth activism in combating climate change.
A touching feature of the event was the communal meal enjoyed by participants, which nurtured a deep sense of togetherness and shared mission.
