Grassroots Evidence for Agroecology: Launch of the Online Catalogue
Agroecology has become a game-changing answer in a world that is struggling with environmental degradation, food poverty, and climate change. However, the opinions of people leading this movement—local communities, grassroots organizations, and small-scale farmers—are frequently disregarded. The Grassroots Evidence for Agroecology (GEA) Online Catalogue is a ground-breaking digital platform that highlights the impact of agroecology from the ground up. It was created by the Agroecology Fund (AEF) in partnership with Statistics for Sustainable Development (Stats4SD) to fill this gap.
Amplifying Grassroots Voices.
Since its launch in 2021, the GEA initiative has sought to bolster agroecology's proof by providing grassroots organizations with the means to record and share their achievements. GEA has tested its strategy with grassroots organizations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America using a participatory technique. By launching an online course in 2024, the program broadened its audience and made its technique available to more people.
To illustrate the transformative potential of agroecology, 15 organizations have contributed to the GEA Online Catalogue, showcasing their experiences. This platform gives communities the ability to raise awareness of their practices while also giving academics, philanthropists, and policymakers personal knowledge of the practical effects of agroecology.
Join the Conversation
On February 25, 2025, at 10 AM EDT (UTC-4), the AEF and Stats4SD will host a webinar to discuss these findings and hear directly from grassroots organizations. Voices from Asia, Africa, and Latin America will come together at this event to talk about how communities are recording their achievements and forming a more inclusive, scientifically based dialogue on agroecology.
To ensure wide accessibility, the webinar will be held in English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. In addition to learning how the GEA Online Catalogue is bringing about change, participants will acquire important insights into the prospects and difficulties of grassroots agroecology.
Why This Matters.
Agroecology is a movement that emphasizes sustainability, equity, and resilience rather than merely a farming method. The GEA initiative is contributing to the development of a more equitable and sustainable food system by elevating the voices of grassroots organizations and small-scale farmers. The ability of community-driven evidence to impact international policies and practices is demonstrated by the GEA Online Catalogue.
