Environmental Defence Canada (EDC), a leading environmental advocacy organization, is seeking a Senior Climate Program Manager to join their team on a 1-year parental leave contract. This is a unique opportunity to lead impactful climate campaigns, influence national policy, and drive climate action in Canada. The role is hybrid, with a preference for candidates based in Toronto or Ottawa, and offers a competitive salary range of 80,000−80,000−95,000, depending on experience.

Purpose of the Role:
The Senior Climate Program Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing EDC’s climate initiatives. This includes:
- Leading efforts to secure effective climate change solutions at the national level.
- Opposing environmentally destructive projects and policies.
- Reducing the influence of the oil and gas sector on climate policy.
- Elevating climate issues in Canada’s national political discourse.
The successful candidate will coordinate campaigns, mobilize Canadians to demand stronger climate policies, and work collaboratively with EDC’s climate team and external partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor federal climate and energy transition policies.
- Contribute to EDC’s strategic climate programming and national political engagement.
- Develop and implement campaign strategies.
- Manage a small, high-performing team.
- Represent EDC in coalitions with other climate organizations.
- Build relationships with civil servants, elected officials, and political staffers.
- Act as a media spokesperson on climate issues.
- Produce communications materials, including blogs, press releases, and social media content.
- Assist with grant applications and funder reports.
Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in environmental issues, public policy, or NGO work.
- Proven success in leading issue-based campaigns.
- Strong understanding of climate and energy policies.
- Excellent communication and media spokesperson skills.
- Experience in government relations, coalition building, and policy development is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to manage teams and projects effectively.
Location and Work Model:
This is a hybrid role, combining remote work with in-office collaboration. Candidates based in Toronto or Ottawa are preferred.
